Day 112: What Your Life Reveals About What You Really Believe

April 22, 20264 min read

You can always tell what you believe by looking at what’s going on in your life.

Years ago, I started having clients write out what was important to them, what they wanted to accomplish, and what they valued.

It was always a list they felt proud of.

Then I would ask them to look at their calendar and write down how many hours they spent on different types of activities.

Then they would look at their bank statements and see what they were actually spending their money on.

It was always very telling.

Because for the most part, what they said they wanted and valued painted a very different picture than how they spent their time and money.

The saying that your actions speak louder than your words is true.

When we are out of alignment, our words say one thing, but our thoughts and beliefs are conveying something very different.

It’s estimated that about 95% of your mind’s activity is handled by your subconscious.

That means you’re only consciously aware of about 5% of your thoughts.

While you spend time using your conscious mind to create solutions and think about the life you want…

95% of what’s actually driving your behavior is happening in the background.

That’s where those old tapes live.

The beliefs that were formed in childhood that you don’t even think about anymore.

Things you were told.
Things you observed.
Things you witnessed and maybe misunderstood.

Those are running a large part of your life.

That’s why it’s so important to monitor your thoughts.

Your inner dialogue and what you say out loud.

Because thoughts, repeated over time, become beliefs.

And beliefs are rarely questioned.

They just run the show.

That’s where what you truly believe about yourself lives.

You can say positive things to yourself, but if the inner picture you carry doesn’t match those words, nothing changes.

Change often happens when staying the same becomes more painful than taking a risk.

I’ve always preferred to make a shift by choice, instead of waiting for the pain to force it.

Have I always done that?

No.

Spending a decade in an abusive situation, too afraid to leave for fear of being caught and killed, is an example of how sometimes it takes time for the pressure to build enough to create change.

Despite the risks.

The Teachings of Abraham say:

“The Law of Attraction always yields to you the essence of the balance of your thoughts. No exceptions. You get what you think about—whether you want it or not.

And, in time, and with practice, you will come to remember that the Law of Attraction is always consistent.

It never tricks you. It never deceives you. It never confuses you.

It responds precisely to the vibration that you are offering.”

During that time in my life, I was building something internally.

My beliefs about what I deserved.

What I was capable of.

My courage.

I was constantly reading personal growth and spirituality books.

I listened to personal growth programs from Nightingale Conant nonstop in my car.

Even now, I could probably still recite stories from Wayne Dyer, Brian Tracy, Denis Waitley, and Tony Robbins.

I was alone in that part of my life.

No one around me was interested in that kind of growth.

So my mentors were books and tapes.

And even in the worst situation, over time, I was able to build a new self-image.

New self-trust.

New beliefs that changed my life forever.

What I want you to take from this is simple:

Even though 95% of your mind is subconscious, you can change it.

And if you’re not dealing with the level of external pressure I was at that time, you can make those shifts much faster.

Most of the time, even back in my twenties, bringing myself into alignment and becoming a clear channel for what I wanted was enough to create change quickly.

Try the exercise I give my clients.

Look at your time.

Look at your money.

See what’s really there.

That will tell you what you believe.

And if you want help after that, or you have questions, just hit reply.

Today’s Gentle Practice

Take a quiet moment today.

Think about something you say is important to you.

Something you want more of in your life.

Then gently look at your day.

Where your time goes.
Where your attention goes.
What you come back to over and over again.

Pause.

And ask yourself:

“Does this reflect what I say I believe?”

No judgment.

Just awareness.

Take a breath.

And notice what you see.

If this brought something up for you, or you noticed a gap between what you say you want and what you’re actually living, just hit reply and tell me.

With you,
