Day 120: You Don’t Have to Choose Everything
Choices, choices, choices.
Or you could call them decisions.
They are the same thing when you think about it.
“Choices” is a less stress-inducing word and more empowering because it reminds you that it’s all about what serves you best.
The buffet of life.
Forrest Gump said life is like a box of chocolates and you never know what you’re going to get.
But that’s only true if we relinquish all control over our lives and become passive creators.
Or if you choose to leave your life to chance.
We’re still creating, because it’s impossible not to.
But we are doing it unconsciously.
So there is no focus or knowledge of what we want or how to get it.
On the other hand, we can step into the role of co-creator and craft a beautiful life specific to our desires.
One of my favorite descriptions of this comes from The Teachings of Abraham:
“Imagine yourself as a chef in an extremely well-stocked kitchen that contains every imaginable ingredient, and as you proceed, there are many ingredients that are not appropriate for your creation, so you do not utilize them, but you also feel no discomfort about their existence.
You simply utilize the ingredients that will enhance your creation and leave the ingredients that are not appropriate out of your pie.”
Similarly, you never walk into a grocery store and say, “What are all these other things doing in here? I will never use any of these. Have them removed!”
We don’t have to choose everything just because it’s available to us.
We don’t have to want, or even like, everything that is out there.
We just choose what we want to include in our personal world and leave the rest.
No judging.
You do you and let everybody else do what appeals to them.
Live and let live.
When our focus stays on what we want in our lives, we are much happier and more satisfied with our results.
Today’s Gentle Practice
Take a quiet moment today.
Notice what you’ve been saying yes to.
The things you’ve taken on.
The things you’ve allowed into your time, your energy, your attention.
Then gently ask yourself:
“Is all of this actually mine to carry?”
Not everything needs to be chosen.
Not everything needs to be included.
Take a breath.
And consider what you might leave out, simply because it doesn’t belong in your version of life right now.
With you,
Lynn
P.S. We’ve covered a lot of ground in the first 120 days of the year, and if you’ve been reading since the beginning, and if you keep a journal, I have a feeling you’ll notice a lot of shifts during this time.
Small shifts that add up to big things in your life.
