Day 138: The Quiet Internal Shifts That Change Your Life
When I heard those words, “It’s cancer.”
When I saved change from the grocery store for 3 years, planning my escape, so he wouldn’t notice I had money.
When I lost everything but my mind in a divorce and the financial crisis of 2008.
These 3 principles kept me going:
1. There’s no condition so insurmountable you can’t reverse it’s affect on you by choosing different thoughts.
2. Choosing those new thoughts only asks for focus and practice.
3. If you continue to focus your thoughts and beliefs as you have been, nothing in your experience will change.
Once I recognized this part of the framework I had unconsciously built for myself to survive situations like the ones above, I understood these principles were universal and I could use them in any situation where life had cracked me open.
Or, if I was lucky, recognize an impending situation and use these principles to avoid a total collapse.
Through the decades, I’ve come to see these are basic tenants of personal growth and spiritual growth.
It’s so simple and yet the majority of people find the idea of change so difficult, it becomes a major stumbling block to their happiness and success in life.
Whatever the particulars of a situation, the answer is always, “I will get through this and be better for having done so.”
And when you take this stance, the entire Universe is there to back you up and clear your path.
It’s only a matter of whether it requires going around, rising above, or going through it. Just remember, you are never doing it alone.
You are co-creating your world.
Turning around and going back is not an option.
In all 3 of the life quakes that came to mind as I started writing this morning, none of them could have been transcended by standing still or going backwards.
They all had to be moved through one way or another.
That’s how life works.
And every situation required me to shift my perception of the situation and see it differently.
That’s what gave me the idea of how to get around my paychecks being taken making sure I had no access to my own money, to leave an abusive relationship.
I found an unconventional way to get cash, slowly so I wouldn’t be found out.
That took a change of perspective, which gave me new creative thoughts, and those thoughts became a foundation to build a new belief that I could escape.
And it gave me faith in myself I needed to be patient, while it took time.
Changing your way of seeing things is free.
It doesn’t cost a dime.
You don’t have to disrupt your life in any way to change your thinking.
What most people don’t realize is that these shifts happen internally long before your outer life catches up.
At first, nobody sees it.
You’re still living in the same house.
Still going to the same job.
Still waking up to the same circumstances.
But internally, your thoughts are changing, your beliefs are changing, and your emotional set point is changing.
And with every new thought you choose, your relationship to the situation changes too.
That’s where your power returns.
Not because the circumstances instantly disappear, but because you’re no longer emotionally and spiritually trapped inside the same perception of them.
That’s the real beginning of freedom.
And eventually, those quiet internal shifts begin shaping new decisions, new actions, new opportunities, and new outcomes.
That’s how we become someone new.
Not overnight.
Not through force.
But thought by thought. Choice by choice. Shift by shift.
Until one day you look back and realize the life that once almost destroyed you became the very thing that awakened you to your own strength, your connection to Source, and your ability to consciously co-create a completely different future.
Today’s Gentle Practice
Think about one situation in your life that feels heavy, limiting, or difficult right now.
Instead of asking, “How do I fix this?” gently ask yourself:
“What new thought about this situation am I now ready to allow?”
Not a forced positive thought.
Just a slightly more open one.
A thought that creates even the smallest feeling of relief, possibility, or movement.
Because sometimes one new thought is enough to begin changing the entire trajectory of your life.
With you, Lynn
