Day 152: The Freedom of Trusting Yourself

June 01, 20263 min read

I just read a passage from The Teachings of Abraham that got me thinking.

It talked about how it’s not necessary for everyone else, or even anyone else, to understand what you’re learning in order for you to have a wonderful life.

It goes on to talk about how as you remember who you really are, and start to deliberately have thoughts that are vibrationally aligned with who you really are, your world will fall into this same alignment.

I have found this to be true at various phases in my life, over and over again. And it is truly wonderful.

I also have created painful times in my life when I was too worried about what other people would think and it colored the decisions I made.

One painful memory that popped up as I was writing this was a time when my business was doing the best it had ever done, and I was a very public person at the time.

My intuition told me to make a very out of the box shift in my business, but I was too afraid of what my peers would think or say.

And I was afraid I would be scoffed at or ridiculed, even kicked out of the cool kids club I enjoyed being in so much.

So, I didn’t follow my gut. I stayed in my box. And needless to say, nothing good came of that decision.

I knew better. And still, I wasn’t brave enough to do what I knew was best for me in that situation.

I could feel the energetic heaviness of betraying myself almost immediately.

Even though everything still looked successful on the outside, internally I knew I had abandoned myself.

On the opposite side, nothing in life feels better or gives you a thrilling ride in life than being fully aligned.

I have a pet peeve about people leading their lives by committee, having to ask other people before they can commit because they don’t trust themselves.

And yet, here’s a great example of me doing the same thing.

Thankfully, those times where I went against my intuition are few and far between.

The other part of this passage was about needing to explain yourself.

As someone who was on a solitary growth path for more than 20 years before I found a group of like-minded people, I’m telling you it can be done.

But these days, it’s no loner the only way.

It’s much easier to find your people, online or off.

And, at the same time, nobody in your family or friend group is you.

They are not experiencing your life from inside the filter of your experiences, so they really aren’t in a place of giving you permission, no matter how well they know the outside personality of you.

One of my favorite teachings from A Course in Miracles is the idea that your freedom lies in your defenselessness.

That’s because when you realize you don’t have to defend or explain yourself to anyone or get anyone’s approval to be who you are, you are free.

Today’s Gentle Practice

Notice today if there is an area of your life where you already know what feels true for you, but you keep looking outside yourself for permission, reassurance, or approval before moving forward.

Then gently ask yourself:

“What would I choose here if I fully trusted myself?”

Not what would make everyone comfortable.

Not what would look safest from the outside.

Not what would gain the most approval.

Just what feels aligned and true for you.

Sometimes the greatest shifts in our lives begin the moment we stop abandoning our inner knowing in order to stay accepted by others.

With you,

Lynn
