Day 175: Every Experience Gives Us Information

June 23, 20265 min read

This morning, I read a few different things that to me were all about being in control of our lives in different ways.

One talked about how we cut ourselves off from the creative flow by saying we can't do something, without even giving it a shot.

The next was about how we can have a tendency to narrow our focus by defining who we are in a limiting way.

Another was reading a Youtube comment about how finding out the government had lied and officially had been partying while the world was in lockdown during COVID has made her lose trust in general.

And the final piece was how much more we will enjoy everything when we choose to be in control of how we feel emotionally.

Then, as I finished reading that final piece, the words from the Bon Jovi song, It's My Life, started in my head.

"It's my life

It's now or never

I ain't gonna live forever

I just want to live while I'm alive"

And then it goes on to talk about having an open heart and doing it my way.

I agree with all of it to a certain extent.

We see what we believe, not the other way around.

Throughout my life, I've noticed that I see the world and my own life through the lens of my belief system, and so does everyone else.

But, are they aware that's what's happening, and are the beliefs theirs, or were they absorbed from other sources?

When I answered the question about what creative flow I've cut myself off from during my lesson from Change One Thing, Change Your Life this morning, I had a hard time thinking of something.

I started the sentence and then waited for whatever the answer was to show up.

It took several seconds, and then it came to me.

I have never offered hypnotherapy sessions on my website.

I'm a certified hypnotherapist, and I enjoy witnessing the transformation these sessions bring to people, but it's always been a word-of-mouth booking process.

I've thought about putting it on my site from time to time, but I haven't really had a site that was more than a blog in several years, until now with https://thetruththreshold.com, which is now about 96% complete.

Will I add this as a service now? Yes, I think I will.

In the meantime, if anyone would like to book a session, you can just hit reply.

If I hadn't have been doing those daily lessons, I don't know if or when it would have popped up for me to be more public with offering it.

The second part about defining ourselves in a limited way, so many of us do that.

It's the thing of hiding our light under a basket, as the old hymn goes.

Which could also apply to me not promoting my hypnotherapy service as valley as I could have been.

I'm not sure why I haven't because hypnotherapy was one of the biggest catalysts in my breast cancer healing.

It helped me to finally release the hold my abuser had on me emotionally and the fear I had of him finding me some day. And I didn't really have to do anything, my unconscious mind released it all and I felt like a huge weight had lifted and never came.

Helping others have those kind of results was why I got certified.

The Youtube comment stuck with me because here it is all these years later and that is something that she has allowed to reshape her life in a deep way that as she said, has made her not trust, and made her more fearful.

What I wanted to know is how she used that information to empower herself in life going forward?

Because if we are let down in our expectations of people or our belief in them, and then we just stay stuck in that place, they live rent-free in your head forever, and that story is running your life.

I prefer to reframe situations and figure out how I can look at it from another perspective and what I can take from it that gives me back control of my life, that I could have given up if I wasn't paying attention.

Which brings us back full circle to the happy part of how much more we will enjoy everything when we choose to be in control of how we feel emotionally.

When I feel myself holding back and not putting myself out there 100%, I can feel it in my body.

We all can, but most people just haven't learned to tune into those signals yet.

I have narrowed and broadened my focus in life so much that it's like playing an accordion. In and out, in and out.

And it's so fun to include all the things you enjoy doing.

People still ask me about health and nutrition even though writing about it isn't a main focus anymore.

Those decades of study didn't just disappear when I stopped narrowing my focus to health.

What do you love that you don't talk about because it seems to be outside your narrow focus?

Because Bon Jovi had it right.

It's your life, and you're not going to live forever. So why not fully live while you're alive?

Take control of how you feel and what you choose to allow or eliminate from your life, and watch things fall into place for you.

Through the years, I've become less interested in what happened and more interested in what I'm going to do with it.

Every experience gives us information.

Every disappointment gives us information.

Every realization gives us information.

The question is whether we use that information to create a bigger life or a smaller one.

That's where our power lives.

Today's Gentle Practice

Think about something you've learned recently.

A disappointment.

A realization.

A hard truth.

A new awareness.

Then ask yourself:

"How can I use this information to empower myself?"

Not:

"Why did this happen?"

Not:

"Who's to blame?"

Not:

"How long can I stay upset about it?"

Simply:

"What can I do with this now?"

Every experience contains information.

The more important question is what we choose to create from it.

With you,

Lynn
