Day 178: The Emotional Environment You Live In
This morning I read this from Wayne Dyer:
"The subconscious mind accepts as true what you feel is true.
Your feelings determine your reality because they're impressed on the subconscious.
Consciously feeling hopeless, and entertaining this idea in your imagination with even more imaginative feelings of hopelessness, will impress on the subconscious mind the idea of failure.
Consequently, you will be offered experiences by the one universal subconscious mind that will match what you've felt is true.
Remember, the subconscious mind is impersonal and nonselective. It cannot make a distinction between what you feel as a result of your daily life experiences and what you feel as a result of what you have placed into your imagination as a future desire."
Now that we're almost 6 months into this journey that began with one little whisper inside of me, that said to share my thoughts daily as I went through my spiritual practice this year, so much has changed.
It has become much deeper than sharing my practice with you.
I find myself sharing my own inner work so you have a living example of how I live my practice, with all the surprises and messiness life brings.
You also get to witness how I filter life's ups and downs through what I've been studying and teaching for most of my life.
By now you've been reminded of so many things that deep inside you, you already knew, but didn't remember.
The most important of which is that you are never alone and because of that you have the power to co-create a beautiful life at any point you choose to lay down what you've been carrying.
You don't need to wait for the perfect time, or an ending to the story you've been telling about who you are and why you are in the place you are.
You can just lay it down and keep walking.
When you are connected to your emotional set point and you recognize the power that gives you to choose a better feeling thought at any point, that means you can create a better feeling day, and a better feeling year, and a better feeling life.
That is the vibrational energy you send out into the world and it comes back to you expanded.
When I first started writing these daily reflections, I thought I was simply sharing what I was learning.
Now I realize I've been practicing something much deeper.
Every morning I've been choosing where I want to place my attention.
Not on fear.
Not on uncertainty.
Not on everything that could go wrong.
But on thoughts that help me remember who I really am.
Little by little, those thoughts have changed the way I experience my life.
Not because life stopped bringing challenges.
Because I stopped allowing every challenge to define my emotional reality.
That's what Wayne Dyer was pointing to.
Our subconscious isn't listening to what we wish were true.
It's listening to what we consistently feel is true.
And that's the greatest gift we can give ourselves.
Not trying to force life to change.
But gently choosing, one thought at a time, the emotional environment we want to live inside.
Because sooner or later, that inner environment becomes the life we experience.
I've watched it happen in my own life.
And I have a feeling we're only just getting started.
Today's Gentle Practice
Notice one recurring thought you've been carrying lately.
Not a passing thought.
The one that keeps coming back.
Then ask yourself:
"If my subconscious accepts this as true, is this the reality I want to keep creating?"
If the answer is no, don't criticize yourself.
Simply choose one thought that feels a little lighter.
A little more hopeful.
A little more expansive.
You don't have to leap from fear to joy.
Just take one small step toward a better-feeling thought.
Sometimes that's all it takes to begin changing the emotional environment you live inside.
With you,
Lynn
