Day 198: Your Feelings Are the Gauge
We have good days and challenging days, and some days can be both.
Nobody lives a charmed life where everything always goes exactly as they had hoped.
Comparison can take us down so fast.
It's easy to look at social media or read industry emails and think that others have it all together. But those are carefully curated to tell you only what they want you to know.
Just like the other day when I talked about all the ants and mosquitos in my picture perfect morning outside.
I could sugar coat things and tell you stories of going for beach walks and watching the sunrise, which is true.
But that would leave out the part where I go through the one working gate I have, which barely can be described as working, to go on that walk.
And every time I walk through that gate, my blood pressure starts to rise.
Feeling taken advantage of is not a good feeling.
When I was growing up in the Midwest, people would say we don't air our dirty laundry. Meaning we don't talk about what goes on behind the scenes. We just smile, dress nice, and behave well, so everything looks perfect.
But here, the whole picture is the point. Real life, and how to do it in a more whole, integrated, aligned way.
This morning I read this truth bomb from The Teachings of Abraham:
Without making the correlation between your thoughts and feelings and the manifestations that are occurring, you have no conscious control of what happens in your experience.
If I had to shorten that, it would be:
Thoughts + Feelings = Manifestation
Then you have to divide that by your level of awareness to get the percentage of conscious control you have in your life experiences.
Because without awareness, that first equation is still happening. It's just happening without your conscious input.
You are at the mercy of your thoughts and feelings running out of control, with no guardrails.
Like a rollercoaster with nobody at the controls.
It might feel great at the beginning, but things can go bad at any moment.
Many people do whatever they can to avoid being aware of their feelings because they think feelings are mostly bad and hurtful and they don't want consciously feel them.
In reality, awareness is the key to shifting those feelings, one feeling at a time, choosing a better feeling thought.
You can't put a happy sticker over the gas gauge so you don't see how low you are on gas. That doesn't make it any better. You'll still run out of gas, whether you want to see the gauge or not.
Your feelings are the gauge.
The more you watch it, measure how many miles a gallon you get, and notice what improves its performance, the more conscious you are about your gas. It's the same with your feelings.
I'd like to say it's not about asking yourself throughout the day, "how do I feel now?", but it is.
Just like with the gas gauge, your emotional gauge performs better when you're managing it by being aware of what makes you feel better and makes you feel worse.
Pretending you don't see it or feel it doesn't make it go away, it's just giving up control.
Your vibrational pattern is still there attracting what is a match.
You have more ability to redirect your energy than you may realize.
So when I open that gate and I notice my blood pressure begin to rise and an inner dialogue that won't be nice getting read to speak, I shut it down.
I take a deep breath and internally change the subject by focusing on what I do want to feel, which is the joy of being in nature and watching the sun rise out of the ocean.
That's the practice. Not hiding from what comes up emotionally, but noticing it soon enough to choose where your energy goes next.
Today's Gentle Practice
Notice one moment today when your emotional gauge shifts.
Ask yourself:
What thought was I feeding right before this feeling changed?
Don't judge it.
Just notice the connection.
Then take one breath and choose one better-feeling thought.
That is how you begin taking your power back.
With you,
Lynn
