Day 207: Appreciation Changes the Frequency
This morning I was reading about appreciation and how the longer you focus on things that feel good, the easier it is to maintain that higher vibrational frequency.
It was saying that when we put our attention on things that easily evoke a feeling of appreciation, then other thoughts, experiences, and things that match that vibration will begin to show up in our lives.
And I thought about the gratitude journal I was keeping when the breast cancer diagnosis came.
I had already been keeping a gratitude journal for quite a while by then. I have a whole container of journals going back to the early 90's, but the one I was writing in at the time of the diagnosis is the only one I've ever revisited.
About 2 years ago I got it out and did a video series going through that period of time, day by day, from the day of the mammogram until after it was over.
I looked at about a month before that to see what was going on in my life right beforehand.
As I reread those entries, normally 3 a day, one thing stood out.
The things I was grateful for were multiplying. Maybe not looking exactly the same, or coming in ways I would have expected. But the patterns were easy to see.
If I was grateful for a friend for whatever reason, I would meet a new friend that had those same qualities.
Or if I was grateful for the money I was making, I would end up making more money.
There were also lots of small things, foods I enjoyed, great weather, having great dog sitters to choose from so we could travel, like long trips to Europe and Hawaii, or our upcoming trip of just under a month to China.
It was all there, everything from spending the evening at the wine bar with friends listening to great music, to simple things like breakfast at the beach, or something cute the dogs did that day.
Everything from the smallest to the biggest just kept coming back to me in bigger and better ways to the point it seemed silly to keep writing I was grateful for those same things over and over, but I truly was.
And looking back at that time, 25 years later, was very interesting.
Part archive, part diary, it told the story of who I was, what I valued, and because of those thoughts and vibrational energy, what I was creating my future to be.
That's the part we sometimes forget. It's not just writing down random things. It reveals what matters to us at that exact point in our lives.
My job that I had loved so much I would have done it for free had become very difficult and not fun anymore. There was jealousy and backstabbing going on that made it more unbearable all the time.
And yet in my gratitude journal I would see days with entries where I found things about it to still be grateful for, besides the money.
It's such an easy practice to do.
Just a notebook or journal next to the bed as a reminder to write 3 things you appreciate from that day.
If I was writing those entries right now for yesterday, since it's 6AM now, I could write that I'm grateful for having my new shade cloth pergola keeping the sun off the windshield of the motorhome and giving me another outdoor seating area.
I'm grateful for the dogs being so excited about every meal they get and how they jump and twirl as I prepare their food, even still at 11 and 12 years old.
I'm grateful for the pizza I had last night and how much I enjoyed the fresh basil and tomatoes on it.
Just writing those examples made me feel warm and fuzzy and put a smile on my face.
I could feel my energy rising.
Try it and see what it feels like in your body before you even finish writing.
Today's Gentle Practice
Before bed tonight, write down three things you appreciated from your day.
Ask yourself:
What did I notice today that felt good, even in a small way?
It can be a person, a meal, a moment of ease.
Something beautiful or ordinary.
Let yourself feel it for a few seconds before moving to the next one, and notice what shifts inside you.
With you,
Lynn
