Day 221: Balance Doesn’t Always Look Balanced
Yesterday, after 2 weeks of back and forth, the issue of stabilizing the motorhome was resolved.
It took time, out of the box thinking, and patience to figure out the best thing to do.
And it cost way more than I was hoping it would.
After it was over and everything was leveled, not the ground, just the motorhome, it felt different.
And I realized that maybe this issue showed up so I could get this taken care of before it became a bigger problem.
I chose an option that still gives me the ability to move the motorhome out if I need to.
So much more was taken care of than the initial issue.
That's often how these things work. We think we are solving one problem, and life is quietly reorganizing several things at once.
Now that it's taken care of, I have a list of improvements I'd like to make outside.
I had friends who asked me why I didn't have everything done before I started spending more time here, just get it all done up front.
For me, I needed to be in the space, to experience how I wanted it to flow. How I would use it, and what felt right.
I needed to experience how the light moves through the day, the birds, the ocean view, and the night sky so I would know where I wanted to put things.
It's the same with our lives.
We need to sit in an experience for a while to see how we want it to resolve and how we want to move forward.
For you, it could have been something unpleasant and expensive, emotionally or financially, that you're now either in the middle of or coming out of and things are different.
There is no going back like nothing happened.
It changed you.
Even if you've stubbornly been trying to go back to a life that is no longer the same, somewhere inside, you know it's not possible.
Every experience changes us and we grow from it. Life isn't built for us to go backward.
We can stand still as long as we want, but there is no back, only forward.
The issue I've been dealing with for the last two weeks has left me unbalanced as well as the motorhome.
It made me look at other issues, ask myself questions about how long I see myself keeping this vehicle, or if I really do plan on getting something like a 5th wheel or park model.
My mind has been opened to a whole new world of the RV lifestyle, that I never knew I would become interested in.
It doesn't matter if it's a problem that needs to be solved or something tragic, all of our experiences change us.
Life is a mirror that helps us choose our path going forward. Sometimes it shows us something so we make a decision on our own, and sometimes when that doesn't work, a major life change makes the decision for us.
Either way, we can find our way back to our own version of balance, different than before.
I read something from Wayne Dyer this morning that got me thinking.
He said the concept of balance defines our universe. The cosmos, our planet, the seasons, water, wind, fire, and earth are all in perfect balance.
And yet, if we look at our world today, it doesn't appear that way. It looks like the opposite of balance. Everything seems in turmoil and chaotic.
But what if that is just a part of adjusting and rebalancing?
On the outside it looks like one thing, but it's actually something much bigger and more aligned taking place that just appears messy from the outside because we can't see the big picture.
To me the big picture is that everything leads us to what is meant for us, to bring us joy and peace and happiness.
And sometimes because we can't see where it's taking us, we fight it. We go kicking and screaming, insisting we want to stay right where we are.
But once we get where we're going we wonder why we resisted for so long.
Balance doesn't always look balanced while it is being restored.
Sometimes it looks messy, inconvenient, expensive, emotional, or completely unclear.
And then one day something settles into what it needed to become.
Today's Gentle Practice
Think about one area of your life that feels messy, inconvenient, or unresolved right now.
Ask yourself:
What if this is part of life helping me find a new kind of balance?
You don't have to understand the whole picture today.
Just notice where something may be reorganizing, even if it still looks messy from the outside.
Let yourself stay open to the possibility that this is leading you somewhere better than the place you were trying to hold on to.
With you,
Lynn
