Day 78: Allowing vs Resisting: The Hidden Key to Creating What You Want
This morning I read two things, one right after the other, that really spoke to me.
From the Teachings of Abraham:
Once you understand that the way you feel indicates your level of allowing or resisting, you hold the key to creating anything you desire. It is not possible for you to consistently feel positive emotion about something and have it turn out badly, just as it is not possible to consistently feel bad about something and have it turn out well. The way you feel tells you whether you are allowing your natural well-being or not.
And then from A Course in Miracles:
Perhaps it is not yet quite clear to you that each decision you make is one between a grievance and a miracle. Each grievance stands like a dark shield before the miracle it would conceal. And as you raise it before your eyes, you will not see the miracle beyond. Yet all the while it waits for you in light.
Both are saying the same thing, just in different language.
The first tells us that when you consistently feel good about something, when you’re in emotions like gratitude, excitement, love, or anticipation, it’s not going to turn out badly.
And when you consistently feel negative emotion about something, it won’t turn out well.
The keyword is consistently.
That’s where awareness comes in.
Because throughout the day, it’s easy to think you’re focused on what you want, while underneath, there’s a completely different conversation happening.
We have tens of thousands of thoughts each day. Many of them are repetitive.
So it can look like this:
You spend time thinking about something you want.
You take action toward it.
But woven through your day are quiet thoughts that say the opposite.
Doubt. Fear. Second-guessing.
And those thoughts can be so automatic you don’t even notice them.
Until you start paying attention.
Sometimes there are even signs that something isn’t aligned for you.
But you push through anyway.
You try harder.
You convince yourself that effort will make it work.
And when it doesn’t, you’re left wondering what happened.
I’ve done that more times than I can count.
For a long time, trying harder was what I did best.
And when things didn’t work, I thought it meant there was something wrong with me.
That I hadn’t done enough.
But it’s actually the opposite.
Go back and read those two teachings again.
This isn’t about pushing harder.
It’s about awareness.
It’s about noticing how you feel.
The difference between resistance and allowing.
You can feel it in your body when you start paying attention.
And it’s about consistency.
When a thought doesn’t match how you want to feel, gently shift it.
Not forcefully.
Just a small course correction.
Over time, that’s what creates change.
The miracle, your desires, your soul’s happiness, is always there.
Waiting.
But when you’re holding onto grievances, frustration, or resistance, it’s like putting up a shield.
You can’t see what’s already there for you.
You don’t need to push.
You don’t need to force.
You don’t need to try harder.
You just need to soften.
Let go.
And allow.

Today’s Gentle Practice
Take a few moments today to notice how you feel while you’re thinking about something you want.
Not just what you’re thinking.
How you feel.
Ask yourself:
Am I allowing this, or am I resisting it?
If you notice tension, doubt, or heaviness, pause.
Take a breath.
And see if you can reach for a slightly better feeling thought.
Not perfect.
Just a little lighter.
A little more open.
That small shift is how you begin to move from resistance into allowing.
If you notice something today, you’re always welcome to reply and share
With you,
Lynn
